There are two types of contact dermatitis: irritant dermatitis and allergic dermatitis. Our dermatologists can help isolate the cause of your rash and plan treatment options.
Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis)
Eczema causes dry, scaly skin and blisters that result in itching and pain. We use the latest medical advances to bring patients relief.
Treatment of Rashes
Rashes affect nearly all of us at some point and may cause irritation or swelling. We treat rashes of every type, including those that are a sign of a more serious illness.
Patch Testing
Typically applied to your back, we use patch testing to determine what is causing an allergic skin reaction. Based on your results, we tailor a personalized treatment plan.
In today's world, there are very few dermatology conditions we can't make a difference in for our patients.
Matthew Zirwas, MD
About Your Provider
Dr. Zirwas is an American Board of Dermatology certified physician. He has been a nationally known expert specializing in contact dermatitis, pruritus, atopic, and seborrheic dermatitis for the last 20 years. His passion is figuring out the real, practical, take-home messages that we can get from the medical literature. Not just reciting ‘the data,’ but synthesizing it and putting it in the context of how it can help patients. He enjoys figuring out ‘what this study means’ and ‘how it connects to what we already know’ and then explaining it in a practical, relatable, entertaining and memorable way.
In addition to the practical experience that comes from taking care of challenging patients, he has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles, been an investigator on over 80 clinical trials, co-authored the 7th edition of Fisher’s Contact Dermatitis, and has given over 200 national continuing medical education lectures to his peers.
He attended undergraduate and medical school and completed a dermatology residency at the University of Pittsburgh. He took his first faculty job at the University of Pittsburgh, then moved to The Ohio State University, where he was the residency director for dermatology for almost 10 years before founding Bexley Dermatology Research.
In Dr. Zirwas’s free time, he enjoys spending time with his kids and cats (in that order).
